Changes for FL-2020

September 12, 2019 | 11:11 am

Here are the most significant changes for FL-2020.

Signup/registration for Finnmarksløpet 2020 start Sunday 15th September at 18:00.
For the junior and the 1200 class, there are no changes.

FL-500 becomes FL-600
The 8-dog class that has been named FL-500 for many years will from now on be called “FL-600”. The trail is closer to 600 than 500 km, so we see no reason to keep the 500 name anymore.

Change of trail. The first part of the trail for FL-600 will follow the same route as FL-1200 has done in 2018 and 2019. In between start in Alta and checkpoint Kautokeino, a new checkpoint will appear. It is “Masi” and the distance is visible in picture below.
In Masi there will be no handlers and the depot is only one bag and maximum 20 kg. There will be a place to sleep, straw and water available in Masi.

From Masi the trail goes into the 1200 trail again and follow the same route as last year.
After Jergul, the next checkpoint will be Levajok. The route between Karasjok and Karasjok (trip up and down to Levajok) is not 100 % settled yet. We will use both inland and the river, but the exact trail will be posted within a couple of weeks.

The mandatory rest will from now on be called “minimum rest”. The minimum rest is 22 hrs + time alignment. Participants can fulfill minimum rest at every checkpoint except Jotka. At Kautokeino the minimum rest must be at least 3 hours +  the time alignment. In Karasjok, the minimum rest must be at least 6 hours.
