Prize Ceremony for the FL-1000 winners

The Prize Ceremony for Finnmarksløpet 1000 gathered many spectators in the pedestrian area, for the occasion re-named the "Finnmarksløpstreet". It was a nice and worthy ceremony which honoured the mushers who have created thrilling moments through the whole week.

FL-1000: Last man standing

Thomas Andresen passed the finish line at 14:45 and ended up 22nd in FL-1000. Thomas is a rookie and received his well-deserved slate at the finish.

Bruin has been found

Finnmarksløpet reports that Robert Sørlie's dog Bruin who went missing, now is found and all is well. This is good news both for Robert and Bruin. It is such good news and it created a lot of cheering among the audience in the city centre when it was announced during the Prize Ceremony. Robert was not there to receive his prize as he, of course, prioritized to search for his dog.

Want More Culture!

Scene Finnmark has arranged 50 different cultural happenings during Finnmarksløpet. Approx. 8000 people, both from Finnmark and guests from elsewhere, have visited one or more cultural events.

Last man towards end

Thomas Andresen from Brandbu is on his way down to Alta. he has had some problems getting the dogs to go ahead lately, but no reports say that he is moving. He is expected to cross the finish line at approx 14:00 o'clok if he is able to keep his dogs going. The photo is from the start one week ago when the tempo of his team was full speed forward. The speed when he arrives today is most likely a bit dfferent.

Arctic Alps Cup

All who complete Finnmarksløpet are winners.  Everyone agree about that. But some win a bit more than others. The Arctic Alps Cup is a contributory factor to that.

Moving again

After a long rest at Jotkavann, Thomas Andresen is moving again. He might arrive in Alta when The Prize Ceremony takes place at 12 o'clock today.

The prizes in Finnmarksløpet is bigger than ever before. The smallest guaranteed prize is NOK 300.000.-. In addition there is a cabin, two ATVs and many other gifts.

Reitan, Frydenlund and Skramstad finished

This afternoon Kjetil Reitan from Narjordet, Ronny Frydenlund from Brumunddal and Nina Skramstad from Brandbu crossed the finish line in Alta.

Rekord for live broadcast

Never before has so many watched the live broadcast which was streamed on net from the start and finish of Finnmarksløpet as this year.

Welcome Martinez

Miquel-Angel Martinez (59) from Catalunya ended up 10th when he crossed the finish line at 15.38 this afternoon. Martinez has participated in Finnmarksløpet many times before, but this is the best place he has gotten so far.

The guy from Kiruna reaches goal

Mats Petterson (40) passed the goal line at 14:34 this afternoon as number 9 in FL-1000. He expressed that he was very pleased with the race.

Beat by his dad

Jo Are Brennodden crossed the finish line as number 7 together with Bernhard Schuchert, who he has raced alongside during the last leg. Brennodden got the same place in FL-500 in 2005.

- Best place, best team

This year's best foreign musher Bernhard Schuchert ended up 7th. It is his 9th Finnmarksløp and his best result ever.

Touching finish

"Not a single eye was dry" is an expression we use when we are moved in our souls. Kjell Brennodden's finish was a like that. He's got the largest handler team in the world from Frankmotunet in Folldal.

Rookie of the year - FL-1000

Thomas Wærner (38) from Torpa, southern Norway, passed the goal line at 10:17 am and became "Rookie of the year" in the 1000 km class. His 5th place in the Norwegian Championship is impressive. He has planned the race, and mushed it, very well.

In to champagne-breakfast

At dawn Gorm Engen from Valdres finished with 8 dogs. He was in at 05:17. It was a satisfied Engen who was welcomed by handlers and other spectators. He was served champagne-breakfast. He deserved that after such a strong performance and well conducted race. It was among other Gorm who helped Roger Dahl when Dahl had lost his team. We congratulate him with 4th place in this year's Norwegian Championship.

- You owe me 520 000!

Norway's most famous musher Robert Sørlie, raced for victory in Finnmarksløpet 2011, but had to see two other teams ahead of him in to goal. He still delivered an excellent race and gets the bronze medal in the Norwegian Championship after crossing the finish line at 01.29 o'clock Friday morning. He lost the Saltdalshytta-cabin.

Fantastic race by Sigrid Ekran

Sigrid Ekran raced marvellously at the end of Finnmarksløpet. On the last day she took half of Roger Dahl's lead and was only 50 minutes behind when she crossed the finsih line.

The last 24 hours she has had the highest speed of all teams in the lead and got the second place clearly in front of Robert Sørlie (who right now syill has a couple of hours to the finish). 

Robert slows down

Robert Sørlie passed Jotka at 20.49. His speed has been significant slower than the two in front of him, but he seems to have secured third place.

FL-1000: We wait and we wait...

People are impatiente and nervous after waiting for almost one week.

Roger Dahl is on the Alta river

Roger Dahl has been observed on the Alta river. He has passed underneath the bridge in Sorrisniva only a few minutes ago. It is about 20 km left.

FL-1000: Enough is enough...

Gorter Voie (33) came in to Sirma as the last musher at 12.40 earlier today. He has now decided to quit the race for the sake of the dogs.

FL-1000: Anything might happen

Robert Sørlie drags himself accross Finnmark's larges lake. Not in gallop, but steady. He reports to his handlers that he stays focused and that anything could happen to them in front of him.
