New record in number of mushers

The number of mushers and sled-dog teams that sign up for Finnmarksløpet 2010 is increasing every day. Never before have so many registered in the month of September. Only 92 participants had registered by this time last year. The favourites, outsiders and adventurers - almost all of them have already registered for Finnmarksløpet 2010.

Never before have so many mushers signed up this early. About one week before the first draw of startnumbers a lot more than 100 participants are registered. Many of them will be part of the first draw and have the chnace to get a low startnumber, thus an early start in the race. It may be an advantage to get out of the centre of Alta among the very first temas due to better tracks and/or not having to pass so many teams in the beginning.

It is very positive that 1/3 of the registered mushers are rookies and that many of the veterans come back. Also, that 15 nations are represented is fantastic! The draw happened at the Volunteer's party in Alta on the 19th of September, and the results of the draw is posted in the '1st draw' article on this page.

The second time limit to register is December 1st 2009. Startnumbers for those who register between Sept 19 and Dec 1 2009 will be decided in a separate draw, and all these will get startnumbers behind those mushers who were part of the first draw on Sept 19th. All mushers who sign up before Dec 1st will also be part of a draw for free start-fees.

However, it is possible to register for the race up until the race-meeting in 2010, and looking back at past races we know that many mushers do. Those who register between Dec 1 and the race-meeting in 2010 will get their startnumbers in the order they register.
